Tata Steel kicks off 33rd National Road Safety Month campaign

Jamshedpur:- Tata Steel today kicked off 33rd National Road Safety Month 2022 (January 18-February 17, 2022) campaign across all its operating units in a virtual event attended by over 500 employees from all locations of Tata Steel.

National Road Safety Month (NRSM) is observed under the guidance of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India every year. The National Safety Council supplements the government’s initiative by promoting Road Safety Campaigns across the country.

The virtual kick-off event was graced by Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Safety Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel; Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Supply Chain and Chairman Apex Road and Rail Safety Sub-committee, Tata Steel; and Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, President, Tata Workers Union. Senior management from Tata Steel, Union Committee Members, Office bearers of Tata Workers Union, employees and vendor partners joined the event.

Road Safety Month is being observed across all operating units and divisions of Tata steel including Tata Steel Meramandali, Tata Steel Long Products Ltd. and Raw Materials Division. During the month-long celebrations, various activities are planned to make employees aware of  the pressing Road Safety concerns and reinforce safety behaviours to minimize road related incidents and injuries. Exemplary Safety performances by employees, contractor employees and vendor partners will be recognized.

Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel welcomed everyone who joined the virtual event and highlighted the Road safety performance of Tata Steel over the years and set the context for the programme.

In his address, Peeyush Gupta urged everyone to take the message of road safety and aspiration of “Zero Harm” to the last employee through various safety committees and not to take any road incidents lightly. There should be absolutely Zero Tolerance to Road safety Violations and this would help us achieve our company’s stated goal of “Zero Harm”, he stated.

Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary stressed on the importance and pressing need for improving Road safety Performance – both at National and the Company level. He shared valuable safety tips with employees.

Sanjiv Paul in his address emphasised about the need for strengthening the Road Safety Governance structure of Tata Steel. He stressed on the need for using Technology to identify Road Safety violations and improve road safety performance.

During the programme, two short safety videos on specific road safety themes were screened for spreading road safety awareness among stakeholders.

Some of the activities planned during the National Road Safety Month campaign include Online Quizzes, On Spot Recognition at Various roads, Hazard Hunt Competition, Short Video competition, Mass communication of Road safety related thematic safety precautions (through SMS and mass mailers), Messages by Senior Executives on Intranet, Community engagement through various radio jingles on prime time in FM channels, Heavy Vehicles Inspections and self-Declaration of two-Wheeler fitness etc.
